Does this boat exist?

My friend wants to buy a boat to leave at the Whitsundays in the yard on Hamalton Isalnd, you just phone or email them and they will have it in a slip waiting for you to fly-in.

He asked me for these requirements;

25-30' not too expensive
6' headroom
good balast ratio
large aft double bunk (rare)
seaworthy enough for reef cruising

I would imagine that while Hamilton Island looks really good in the brochures reality may differ when owning a yacht there.

Why not either charter (and let the yacht owner subsidise his sailing), or buy one of the charter yachts (and greatly reduce his costs)?

There isnt really a 'yard' as such on Hamilton and the one there would be just for maintenance not for long term haul out.
The marina berths are $85 per day so even for a long term and smaller boat one would thing the feller needs to be seriously rich before undertaking the idea.

And if so he can afford a bigger boat.... cos I can't think of that size with a large aft cabin

He may be talking about a program similar to the one they have at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour in the BVI. They store your boat in the yard, and put it in a slip for you when you tell them you're coming to sail. You get a fixed number of dry-to-wet and back cycles for a fixed price, if I remember correctly. Cheaper than renting a slip, and a discount on the haul/launch price, and the boat is ready to sail when you get there.

Big ask here in Aust, even if the pen facility was available there are very few yachts that match that description, especially the aft cabin. Some of the newer US and Euro yachts might have the aft cabin but not the norm in most Aust yachts.

Thats exactly right, the yard is out the back and you would never know it was there if not shown. they tow boats on trailers and launching trailers with a tractor.
Last time I was there it was very reasonable back in 07.

I know there area well and cruised it on 4 different boats over the years.

I am just not up-to date on small yachts.

seems only the Euro boats like Beneteau first and charter built boats seem to have the corect layout

$70K for an old 1985 30' Beneteau first is like double the price of the simular aged Aussie yachts.

Sailed a jeaneau 45 C.C. and it had two wonderful cabins ; one of them was aft..the aft cabin also had not just the head but a bathtub ! sailed very well too .
i know its bigger than you asked but you need to get up in that area before you find an aft cabin

Whoops ! A cheoy lee " passage " [pronounced with a french accent !] has a nice aft cabin at 41 feet .that boat is as solid as a rock !
