Difficult survey: no wheel

I shrinkwrap lots of boats.

Boatpoker is, of course, correct. A roll of shrink tape is about $15.00 at West Marine.

I give mostly used up rolls of tape to my customers who have need.

Ditto: On the wheel issue. Take a knife and 40" of shrink wrap adhesive tape. Problem solved .. but ask if OK. If not and

Do I undestand correctly that the survey does not include sea trial?
And the surveyor agreed to check internal systems with the shrink wrap in place?
Not the best way to go.
And if the boat is seriously for dale, the wrap has to be removed anyway.

Simple solution is to cut the shrink wrap (to accommodate the wheel) test the steering and rudder free play, then simply retape the shrink wrap.

Return in spring,if the boat be on the market. next boat try buying boat in august-September.

In Croatia different in boat price September vs Spring is 10-20%.

how is in your location is boat more expensive in spring ws winter

Wouldn't one have to open up the boat for a surveyor?
Never heard of a shrink wrapped survey.

It eliminates any chance of inspecting the topsides but if the wrap is done with access in mind, one can walk around the decks quite easily. It depends on the type of boat and how it was wrapped. Not uncommon at end or beginning of season up here in the north ... unless it's freezing, then we won't survey.

The buyer has to sign off that we did not have access to topsides.

Doesn't sound like they planned it with being able to access it.
I do understand why they wrapped it, but to sell it, one needs access the vessel.
Guess I'm missing something here.
Can't say I'd buy a house that was locked up and couldnt get in to look around.

The market over the last two years has been insane with frequent bidding wars and people buying boats without a survey because it was the only way they could get one. We get brought in after the fact to give the bad news.

Several months back we got tired of crushing peoples dreams and started refusing those jobs. We've seen cases on boats we'd surveyed 15yrs ago at $15k selling for $40K.

We believe many of these noobs won't realize how deep they are in for another year or so and will flood the market with their mistakes.

^^^. Absolutely on that last point. Most don’t know what a survey is, and the others think it’s a waste of money. They learn the hard way. Though most aren’t the type to maintain stuff anyway.

Boat is on the hard and wrapped for winter. Survey will be on the hard prior to closing, with sea trial in spring. Some money will be in escrow in case issues found at sea trial.

Apparently this is the norm for winter sales in the north.

I do find it unusual at his denial to fit the wheel for survey, however, I wouldn’t let it be the deal breaker (provided there is a wheel lol).

THIS A 27’ PEARSON. I CAN’T IMAGINE A 40” DESTROYER WHEEL COULD EVEN FIT IN THE COCKPIT. MY GUESS IS THE OWNER LIVES A FAIR DISTANCE AWAY DOESN’T WANT TO DRIVE TO THE BOAT.

Very nice boat so I hate to walk away, but it does make me concerned re the real story....

I can imagine the opening in the winter wrap being too tight. Bring some vise grips. Ask for a pic of the wheel, make closing contingent on him bringing it to the table :-)
