Re: Did anyone build my imaginary boat?

I'm thinking Moody 38. I think that ticks all the boxes, including price range.

Cramped , old ones are tired , very small cockpit , very poor headroom , cramped berths

Centre cockpits really don’t work in under 45 feet

I respectfully disagree with your opinion. I think the Moody 38 is well laid out. I didn't find it cramped at all. And none of the things you mention are concerns that were stipulated by the OP.

Re: Did anyone build my imaginary boat?

We have a Catalina 36, with what is called a "mosh pit" large double bed for two in the main cabin. As I suffer too in the gymnastics to get out of the V birth, wife and I moved into the pit. She would be against the hull, I near centerline for quick exit in the middle of the night in any emergency. She discovered though, the ventilation down the center is better, then off to the sides.
So happy wife, happy life, I sit up, grab the overhead and act like an orangutan to swing over her. Either that or take down the card table on the starboard side and be alone in the small bunk.

Taswell 43 should fit the bill at the high end of your budget.

Re: Did anyone build my imaginary boat?

As a fellow newb, I can sympathize on the lack of knowledge on which manufacturers are quality vs. quantity. i.e. Mercedes and BMW vs. GMC, or Toyota vs. YUGO.
A list of say... First, Second, and Third Tier Manufacturers would be a HUGE help for newbs.
For instance we still don't know if we should eliminate Catalinas from our consideration.
I am envious of their height, at 6'+ and my wife at 5'11" visions of cranial impacts color our boat choices.
After around six months of forum reading and classifieds surfing, we are just starting to get a feel for what we are looking for.
