Re: Broken rigid boom vang

I would go to the next aluminium welder and have him weld a plate over the whole section so that you can mount the vang there. Perhaps even weld the vang to the boom on the plate, if you don't need to unmount the vang on this side.

And yes, in the previous paragraph, there's an inclusive use of "him". I would even consider a woman aluminium welder, if I ever met one.

What if they didn't identify as plural?

Is that broken tang attached to a track in the bottom of the boom with two screws the mount point for the boom vang?

If so I would rethink the engineering and fabricate a saddle riveted to the boom sides.

Re: Broken rigid boom vang

Thanks for the info. Welding aluminum makes its weak from my understanding. If you guys know a woman welder its a blessing. I spoke to the marina welder. We are going to put a plate slid in. Let tou know when it gets solved. Cheers

Re: Broken rigid boom vang

we have an almost identical vang system. found a crack in the mounting attachment (which on our boat is actually stainless)

to fix meant removing the screws and sliding the piece out the end of the boom (also meant removing the mainsheet attachment point)

take item to s/s welder of any gender...repair

replace

nothing too hard

cheers,
