The value of a boat is whatever someone will pay, that being said, all boats are for sale……..

Re: Boat values

One source is https://www.buc.com/

But, sailboats are not like cars where there are a limited number of options and models, and boat condition is hugely variable. I have seen prices for the same boat model and year vary by 100% and more, and sometimes none of the asking prices are remotely realistic. A lot too depends on location. There are huge differences in boat prices from the Great Lakes, to New England, to the Chesapeake, to Florida, and then to the West Coast. You really have to compare boats in the same location unless you are willing to travel, with the ultimate problem of getting the boat back to where you want it to be.

Suju:

I think you are confusing "price" with "value"

This is Ec101 stuff but remember that "price means "value in trade" and "utility" means "value in use". There is only the most tenuous connexion twixt the two, given that a yacht (except perhaps as a teaching tool) is NEVER a production asset and therefore has precisely ZERO economic value.

Remember also that BECAUSE that is so, no man should ever pay more money for a boat than he is willing and able to walk away from with a smile still on his face.

Remember furthermore that the purchase price is ONLY the cost of the ticket of admission. Thereafter - for as long as the boat is legally yours - ALL associated costs are yours to bear. For a thirty-footer you must, to cover those costs over the long haul, set a thousand bux aside, EVERY MONTH, in what accountants call a "sinking fund" Ironic, wot:-)?

And remember that you must NEVER allow yourself to be the LAST owner of a boat. In civilized legal jurisdictions the cost of destruction of a boat and disposal of the wreckage (which can he more than the original purchase!!!) devolve on the owner

Bonne chance!

Re: Boat values

If you are looking at a boat listed with a broker some of them will share Yachtworld sales prices--not asking prices, actual closed sales.

And some surveyors subscribe to this service as well.
