Just Wow...

Screaming along now...

Now seems like it would be the time for any guest berth details... Let me know if you need my input...

We are thinking the dinghy on a really, really long line will be good for anyone overnighting .
All other guests will be looked after lavishly .

Just for you Happy, this is the view from the guest bed.

Galley is to starboard before the bulkhead. Smell the cinnamon buns baking and coffee brewing?

Oh man... That gives me cold sweats... And this whole time I thought I was going to have to provide my own looooooooooooooong tender painter...

(ps: if there ever was a CF hall of fame, category... this thread surely meets the criteria) (hey? Why can't we do that?)

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

We've had a busy evening finalising exterior paint and the grain directions for all the interior timber.

A mass of files have arrived for diagrams of all the systems - bilge pumps, fuel, fresh and salt water, grey and black water. They were all specified in written form last year, but the diagrams spell it all out clearly. These will take several days to go through. We are just buzzing with excitement . Doubt I will sleep much tonight.

The hulls sides will be left unpainted.
Antifouling will be navy.
Non skid deck paint will be either warm white or a very pale grey to minimise deck heating.

Thanks DDabs.
We have had a zillion decisions to make. Daunting occasionally, but oh so much fun most of the time .

Any preference regarding white or grey for the deck?

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

White may provide a nice contrast to the grey aluminum sides, although may be a little harder to keep clean than the light grey topsides. I don't really know! The good thing is, no matter what your choice, I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong

SWL, thank you for sharing these progress photos with us. They are amazing and exciting. Most of us will never experience a custom built boat and you are giving us a glimpse of the thrill. I'm happy for you and Noelex making this dream a reality.

Thanks Tayana.
We feel incredibly lucky. None of this is being taken for granted.

Having a truly custom boat is a huge undertaking though. We spent years thinking about what we wanted. It took 6 months to put it all in writing. Another 8 months was spent having the design and specs drafted. I guess much can be left to the experts, but in this "set" design we chose to specify everything from alu thickness, to bulkhead positions, to pilothouse and solar arch design and the nitty gritty of dozens of systems. You need to be fully retired to have the time to devote to a project like this .

The yard have been fabulous. We were warned over and over about the pitfalls of having a boat built, but our experience has been nothing but good. The frequent updates with photos have been especially thrilling and I am happy to share these.
