Re: Any opinions on Corbin Sailboats?

Actually the first core sample you see in that one picture is airex, that's from the deck core.

Re: Any opinions on Corbin Sailboats?

I have a corbin it is the same year.bought it as a hull and deck and finished it. the deck is plywood cored no balsa or airex .the airex in the hull does go below the water line it stops about 2feet each side of the center line. if they were smart they should have put all the below the water line through hulls in the solid glass in the center. there is a corbin 39 owners web sight there is some info there

We did some extensive work on the deck and under the waterline last spring in our Corbin and ours is the same. Plywood cored deck and airex above and below the waterline.

Not sure, but after Corbin was finished production, the molds may have been sold and the new "manufacturer" did not use Airex foam core in his production thus resulting in a cheaper and somewhat inferior product. Corbin factory produced only about 199 hulls, only a dozen or so were 'factory finished' and the rest finished sometimes professionally, but sometimes by an amateur, thus degrading the resale value of all....

I was greatly relieved when I ground off most of the gelcoat from the foredeck and all it from the aft cabin top. We had huge cracks all over the raised area of the foredeck and some extended right to the gunwhale. The af cabin was the same. The cores were all bone dry! Some of the cracks around the mast were very wide too. I think the former owner must have sealed them before moisture got in. We reinforced the deck and coated with multiple layers of kiwi grip.
Our hull is also blister free. Still haven't quite figured out why we got it soo cheap.
