Re: crew wanted Mrrina Del Rey to Halfmoon Bay

BTW, have you found any crew yet? Are you still looking for crew? I am not applying for the job, though I'd love to, just wondering since we haven't seen any asking about it here.

Lol, those of us giving advice know what an uphill slog it is.

Re: crew wanted Mrrina Del Rey to Halfmoon Bay

I did this run two winters ago, in early December, on a Freedom 40 (and probably a dozen times before, but this was the most recent.) By all means, download and use Windytv to anticipate the winds along the coast. I found it to be extremely accurate, and it made the decision of when to leave Santa Barbara much easier. We had modest northerlies turning to lovely southerlies, and generally good weather.

Always call the CG cutter in Morro Bay before entering the harbor. The harbor notoriously shoals on the Red Right Returning side, so don't hug the red buoys.

At the end of the summer, the Giant Brown Kelp beds long the SB-Conception area will be thick and lush. It can be easy to sort of get caught inside of the kelp as you power along the coast, then difficult to find a passage out.

Do you have an autopilot? Along with your (reliable) diesel, and autopilot is vital.

Download the Navionics Boating App and the charts for the CA coast. Invaluable, even if you have a chartplotter. Also download FindShip, the poor-man's AIS display.

Cheers,

Chuck
