Washington West Coast

I am on my way to California this coming week and I see that the weather map shows south winds of 5-15 knots and 2ft wind wave plus 4-5 ft nw swell for 2 days.

I have to be in SF by Sep 1st so womdering if anyone had to sail(well motor..) in these conditions and how bad is it?

boat is a 45ft.

Re: Washington West Coast

Not bad. Depending on the period.

Re: Washington West Coast

I'd be more concerned with all those barbs on the little arrows offshore of Cape Mendicino. If NWS is showing 35 kts wind arrows you can bet it is a lot more going around the Cape or one of the Capes just before it. Close hauled into 15kts for a few days will get everyone over their seasickness - hopefully.

The initial few days will probaly be fine. Just take a weather day if the S OR. Capes or Mendicino is showing predicted big winds. You will usually get caught at one of these capes anyway - without the NWS prediction - on typical Seattle to SF trip.

Check out

Northeast Pacific WX Briefing Package

I would not do it now.

The 96 hour forecast has a low right where you do not want it.

BTW - the most dangerous item on a boat is calendar.
