Sorry Barny - you got caught up in a private joke. Elsewhere in cyberspace I own and operate a similar forum to this one based in NZ. I occasionally drop in here as a chance to let off steam and be myself a bit more than I can there (as the owner /operator and chief salesman I have to hold my tongue now and then, maybe that's why I come across as a grumpy old man here!).
My boat and login there is Squid, Gmac is a regular and much appreciated contributor and we all know his boat is named Suburban Reptile and is badly in need of a paint job.

But Octopus and Squid are pretty cool animals. I chose the name as my boat shunts rather than tacks or gybes and a squid is the only thing I know of in the ocean that goes in both directions.

My apologies to other users and thanks for your indulgence.

Ours Hippocampus.

Thought it was so cute, but now we find that given the amount of time we spend holding on to some weed rather than going in any precise direction the name became adequate in quite an unpredictable way.

Cheers,
barnie

A proa not far from a doubleender. Both very practical if caught in the irons.

Hehe.
