Best location to source new anchor chain

Hi all-

Over the next 6-8 months we're going to be heading over the top of PNG, through eastern Indonesia and then on to Malaysia/ Borneo. What's the best location along this route to source a new 100 meters of 3/8th High-test (G4) anchor chain?

We've been in the Solomons for a while and I've made enquiries here, but no one had it locally and the time and expense of shipping it in was prohibitive.

We might be willing to divert over to Singapore if that's a good location.

Biggest concern is getting the right chain (good stuff, not a low quality type) but beyond that cost and amount of time needed for wait for an order are considerations as well.

Thoughts?

Cheers- Matt

Re: Best location to source new anchor chain

Your only real hope is Singapore unless you can arrange through a supplier in NZ or Oz and have it shipped ahead to a future port. Best to use an agent for this as it will need to be cleared from shipping container when you are still out at sea, unless you want to hang around in a port waiting. My best advice would be Chains, Ropes and Anchors in Auckland NZ, he has a lot of experience shipping to oddball locations, is a sailor. honest, good prices and reliable. Only problem is he talks too much LOL. Message GMac on here and tell him he owes me a rum.
