Worldwide boat insurance

Hi everyone, I’m in the process of buying a Vancouver 34 classic in the UK I am based in England my insurers have informed me they will only insure the boat as far south as Northern France which is no good to me as I plan on taking her much further than that, has anyone else had this problem, apparently no insurers offer worldwide sailing cover

Re: Worldwide boat insurance

How fast will you be traveling and how far?

It might be easier to simply get a new plan in the area you plan to be for the next few months.

Cruisers usually get coverage for the areas they will be in for the next 12 months only. Coastal insurance is generally less than offshore.
At the end of your policy and sailing season you work to get the coverage areas updated to cover your next years cruising grounds.

Before you apply for insurance from this outfit, make sure you do a Google search on them. Many issues.

Re: Worldwide boat insurance

Valhalla and Paul L are spot on. Do not buy worldwide cover as you really only need regional coverage for where you are at a given. Write down a rough timeline of where you expect to be and when and then have a broker market the coverage that way. If plans change you can amend the navigation limits mid term or remarket to other carriers.

Re: Worldwide boat insurance

Yup, what the others have said. We have had regional declared cruising ground each year. We have been dropped/canceled by the best. Hurricane season shuffled the deck.

Some Great Lakes coverage, now gone
Lloyd’s
Geico

ANJO for the Caribbean only is where we are now. If you contemplate a change get the new coverage before you drop the present plan. Being uninsured for whatever reason tosses you into a different pool with the lepers. You likely need a current survey for hull insurance but liability only might be more readily available.
