Re: Which countries in carribean and azores, canaries are guns ok

Okay, the popcorn being served with this thread is both stale and burnt.

Really? Yachties debating WWII and land wars and being indignant about it. Pathetic.

Okay, reasonable request. How about I just call you a boatman. Generic enough.

It seems that some wish to be armchair navy types with their warmongering, a.k.a. Captains and Admirals. There should be submariners forum for that.

With as many threads that cover guns on boats, one would think that there would be a lot more Gunboat catamarans on the seas. But then you have to deal with declaring you own a gunboat and I suppose that would invoke it often being required to be locked or confiscated for the duration of one's visit to a country.

As the song goes:

For What It Is Worth.

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's s time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid

You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down . . .

I hope I was not sounding indignant, I did not mean to be.
For me it was just conversation. I hate how tone and inflection can not be conveyed in text.

Boatman, now that you have given out your identity, which bar might that be?

May be in need for a sundowner. And could become quite popular if say was to buy around for the house.

Should I leave a big tip on the tab so as to maintain your reputation with the barkeeper and drink attendant(s)?

A couple of years ago, I was leaving the local super Walmart that had recently opened, replacing the small format Walmart, when I notice a guy entering carrying an AR-15 style rifle strapped to his back. I forcibly stiff armed him and said: "No. You won't be in need of that." Pointing to his weapon. The Walmart greeter [a kind elderly lady] was grateful that I had stopped him and instructed him to leave the vestibule of the store. She gave me a wink and a smile. I observed him return to his truck and place the rifle into the rack on the back window and then he went back in to shop. Yea it seemed that he liked to show off his rifle, instead of storing it safely out of sight. I was tempted to replace his rifle displayed in the rack with a plastic squirt gun. But all was good.

Some people take open carry too far. I was not going to argue his right to bear arms, but was simply questioning his reason for doing such. I perceive such persons to generally be either paranoid or insecure personalities. I have no issue with gun ownership, especially for hunting, but packing for "self defense" I just can't resolve to such inherent feeling of insecurity and fear in my day to day life. Actually upon discussion with carrying types I find their typical real underlying reason for packing is about an image they are attempting to project. When I explain that the image that I perceive is of an insecure being, it tends to cut their already small self esteem to the quick because it is exactly the opposite of which they are trying to be conveyed as. One needs to speak the truth even if persons don't desire to hear it or accept it.

An example of speaking the truth was recently an associate that I admire started vaping [ecigarette]. I told him that he might as well just start sucking his thumb for what its was worth of the image he was conveying. Result: He no longer vapes because the image that I asserted was so NOT what he desired. I think he was trying to be hip. And hey I don't have to put up with the stinking mist when I am enjoying his pleasant company.

All the best. Hope you are enjoying boating. No such aquatic joy here, but the water temperature has risen a tad today, its presently a balmy 34.5 Fahrenheit out at the buoy in mid-lake and not in the bays or marinas that have become frozen with the coldish spell that we have incurred of the last ten days. Dang Canadians exporting their winter weather again ; we really should build a wall to keep such north of the 49th parallel.

Are you trying to claim that policing prosecution and sentencing are color-blind?

If so, that's completely delusional.

In much of the U.S. - not just the south - the very founding motivation of modern police forces came out of the desire to hunt down runaway slaves, enforcing segregation and the disenfranchisement of free blacks.

Of course the wealthy wanting to secure their other property "rights", and suppressing labor organizing, breaking strikes were also very important.

Nixon specifically started the "war on drugs" to enable selective suppression of civil rights and anti-Vietnam activism and most of the earlier hysterical reefer madness propaganda around prohibiting drug use played on the fear that white women might mix with men of other races.

All this is embedded in the DNA of "law and order" culture, to the point where really the only hope of making progress on racial justice here seems to be abolishing our current law enforcement institutions and rebuilding them from the ground up.

The moderator should shut this thread down immediately John61ct is WAY out of line with his anti US rhetoric. If he wants to present facts, ok, but not make up stuff that has no basis in reality. He apparently does not live in the US. His user status of 5 stars is nor earned. His age shows why he is clueless.

These ideas are very pro American, we can do so much better.

Supporting systemic structural racism is not patriotic.
