Sailboat names

Hi All,
What do you think about Nautilus as a sailboat name? To name the boat after famous Captain Nemo's Nautilus submarine? Wouldn't that be an unlucky name for a sailboat?

Not really:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Nautilus_(1804)
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautilus_(1886)

Only because he US names some of their submarines after the one in Jules Verne's book, doesn't make it an exclusive name.

Funny names, thanks. Yet naughty is not nauti, and it is not related to Nautilus. Captain Nemo named his submarine Nautilus after marine mollusc
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautilus.

Nemo is the main hero of "20000 Leagues Under the Sea, a great novel by Jules Verne.

Re: Sailboat names

A boat name can reveal much about the personality of the boat owner – so choosing a boat name can be difficult. To help boaters with this task, BoatUS Boat Graphics & Lettering has been compiling a list of boat names given by boaters across the country for the past 10+ years. Check out the top 10 boat names by year below.

Pura Vida
Seas the Day

Liberty

When I picked my boat's name I anticipated having to spell it many times on the radio, so I kept it simple - keep that in mind - November Alpha Uniform Tango India Lima Uniform Sierra.

Re: Sailboat names

yep, gotta be able to pronounce and spell the name.....

I remember a South African race boat that was named " Dabulamanzi"...it's a Zulu word for " cleaver of the waters"....cool name, but try spelling that to the Coast Guard....

You gotta pick a name that is easily said, easily understood, and easy to spell...a single name is best....forget about the "Betsy Sue" stuff...and other multi word names....

Very true, it should be short and simple. Better one word then two or more. Nautilus may be abbreviated to Naut which means sailor in Greek. Yet there is at least one Naut out there:https://amsterdambyboat.com/naut/
Also someone told me that Nautilus is an unlucky name, because sailboat called with submarine name is destined to go down and sink one day.

And still I very much like Nautilus as it is in Jules Verne novel as well the story itself ..

Flipping through the past years in that link reveals much about boaters in the US - they lack imagination!
