Rise of the Cat People

Woke up today in one of my favourite anchorages in the Bahamas. and I was surrounded by cats! Five of them. The smallest was a 42.
This season it seems all the new boats are cats. Tons of Lagoons 42 45 and 50's with their hi-rise houses and Bimini's sticking out over the helm. St. Francis, Leopards and lots of other South African cats. Some other big jobs with wave piercing bows. Catanas.

Very few small cats. Geminis have disappeared. One or two old Endeavorcats but most of the cats are new and large. Now the majority of boats is still monohull's but the Bahamian cruising scene is certainly changing.

Just an observation so don't all jump on me. Not meant to start ( or continue) the cat/mono war. Just an observation. As far as new hulls are concerned its all cats.

I'd make some crack about the demise of dog people, but there are some monos I really like. Darn.

No sign of a catamaran "uprising" here. There are a few old trimarans around, however.

Lots of larger cats here in Shelter Pay Marina, Panama. I was just noticing recently how many are crewed by young couples. Lot of boat for just two people, though some are young families. The demographics of cruising are definately changing.

I was under the impression that this has been a trend for many many years...at least in the charter industry.

Re: Rise of the Cat People

Though there are some bucking the trend. This little mono for example. Judging from all the extra big fenders aboard they either just transitted the canal or are preparing to.

Soon, the cat folks are going to start pressuring the florida government to create no-monohull zones.

My cat is named "DogHouse" does that count. Of course she'll be almost as quick as yours after next haul out.
