Missing Lyle Hess Cutter

I am appealing to the Australian boating community to be on the lookout for a Lyle Hess 29 ' cutter sister ship to Lynn and Larry Pardey's Teleslin. Tuska of Sydney is a very distinctive vessel featuring a bowsprite and a boomkin built in Tasmania of Celery Top and Blue Gum sporting teak decks and a green boot stripe. Tuska was sailed Illegally from Brunswick Heads NSW sometimes in April by a crew member. The owner Jan Murray has owned her beloved Tuska since 1998 and informed me Tuska has Australian Registration AMSA851790. Jan Murray is a friend and I have offered her my help .Please contact me if you have seen Tuska 0435430054 Cheers Tom Weiss

Any suspected direction or destination for the boat. Not likely to be able to hide in a marina full of white plastics.

To post a photo:

- Use 'Post reply' (just under the last post) rather than 'Quick reply'
- Scroll down and click on 'Manage attachments'
- Click on 'Choose File' and select your image from where it is on your computer/tablet
- Click on 'Upload' to the right of this
- When it has uploaded, scroll down to the bottom and click on 'Close this window'
- The image should now be attached at the bottom of your post
- You can click on 'Preview Post' if you want to view it before posting (it will not just appear where you are typing)

A photo of the missing boat would really help .

Coops.
You are so right I did a sweep of The Gold Coast from Sanctuary Cove to Southport last week ,When I approached the SYC my heart skipped a few beats there like a sore thumb sticking out was that distinctive stern. As it turned out the vessel was a Lyle Hess 36.
Jan believes Tuska;s course from Brunswick Hds may have been N to Queensland.

Re: Missing Lyle Hess Cutter

That's a beautiful boat. It does look a lot like a Lyle Hess 32'. But that is just from my observation of this blog: SKYE | A Lyle Hess 32

Lyle Hess designed some nice looking boats.

Re: Missing Lyle Hess Cutter

Suspected destination would mainly be dependant on what is known about the suspected thief and what his/her motives might be.

Pretty hard to hide or even disguise a vessel like this. It would stand out both in a crowded and a remote anchorage.

Coastwatch keep a pretty good track of vessels offshore once you get north of the tropical line so would be hard to spend much time sailing around northern Australia.

Any chance of the thief doing a dash to NZ, seems to my inexperienced eye it might be possible to loose something like this around Auckland?

Re: Missing Lyle Hess Cutter

Just imagine some at CF may not know by heart how a LH cutter looks like ... I think there should be some entry conditions here ...

;-)

Beautiful boats and easy to spot in the crowd. No wonder she got stolen. I hope she will be found and rejoined with her legal owner.

Cheers,
b.

Re: Missing Lyle Hess Cutter

This is a thought that came into my head from the first post. I said to my lady that it sounds a bit like a lover's tiff and he sailed off in the boat. I do hope that I am totally wrong because that would mean that we are getting involved in something that we shouldn't rather than looking for a thief. Happy to be well proven wrong about my cynical thinks.
