This is however a marina run by the Yacht Club and not a commercial marina. Commercial marina's tend to be much more expensive in The Netherlands.
I think actually that Valhalla's reasoning is a bit strange. It's a bit like a car manufacturer charging a car wash because without the manufacturer the washer wouldn't have a car to wash.
Only strange if the car wash was on the car manufacturers property.

It's closer to bringing a bucket of water and a rag onto a car dealers lot and asking customers as they come in, if they would like their car washed. The car dealer may not be running their own car wash but why would they let a guy come in free of charge to set up shop in their lot? And then if the guy scratches their car, who do you think the customer will complain to?

Now some marinas may consider it a benefit to their customers. Some may not. That's the marina's choice.

Fortunately, the boatyard I use doesn't charge berthage when brought there for maintenance and repair ... even when work is done and I'm unavailable to pick up the boat a week after repairs are done.

If you don't know how to spell gouge, chances are you're probably going to get gouged.

Good point, but you might need a gauge to determine the degree of gouge.
