Re: Little rust spots on top deck

I guess I should make one thing clear, I have only used this on white gel coat, I have no idea what it would do to colored gel coat. That being said I had a gel coat repair done to my deck once and the tech color matched it when the deck had not been cleaned with Phosphoric acid. After cleaning that spot remains noticeably redder that the rest of the deck.

When using acids remember to always wash or scrub off with copious amounts of water. when doing large areas only leave it on a surface for 10mins max before washing off with copious amounts of water so no harm comes to the surface that you are cleaning. Have been using Oxalic for 30 years.

Re: Little rust spots on top deck

I've used oxalic acid, phosphoric acid, and hydrofloric acid to remove rust stains over the years. By far the most effective was the hydrofloric acid.

The Whink that Ron mentioned is hydrofloric acid. It's available in most grocery and hardware stores in the laundry department.

If you can find it, Erusticator seems to be a more concentrated version. I've only found it at comerscial chemical houses. It's used by the dry cleaning industry to remove rust stains from clothing.

I'm told it will etch glass so I'm careful not to get it on my windows.
