Yeah it has the potentional. I’m afraid I spent more time sailing then cleaning. Going to try harder to get it cleaned up over the summer.
I have come across a lot of free boats that could be nice. Timing is everything.

Pearson Ariel, $1,000.00

https://boston.craigslist.org/nos/bo...605177088.html

Pearson Wanderer, $5,500.00 but im sure both can be had for less. This one is well set up from the description and sounds like a great boat. Almost 10k, making her stout and great layout.

So "boneyard boats. com" isn't taking new subscribers, but you have to be a subscriber to see the boats listed......

Now that's a pretty little daysailer! I'd love to have it, but I need to get back in a cruising boat more.

That Pearson 30 with a diesel is currently at $3,500, down from at least $7,000 when I first saw it. You don't often see them asking that low for one of these boats if it has a diesel.

It's on Kerr lake, which I live on, so I may go look at if for someone if you need me to.

I was begging for a very reasonably priced boat on another thread. This looks like it's very reasonable, but I want one in saltwater, on the coast already.

My friend...you found a unicorn. So many of us are searching, and you found one. Well done. Enjoy your boat. Its good to know that unicorns DO exist. I know you have a lot of work ahead of you, but wow...that is a great boat...and a story you will be telling for a long, long time. Well done, my friend, well done indeed!

Re: FREE, or close to free!

She was listed at $12000 (if I remember correctly)now reduced (after a survey) for 6K obo. This could be a great boat for someone able to do the work needed.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Okay, I will weigh in on this one.

My father owned a yacht brokerage in CA. So, I have sailed on more than one sailboat. Having said that, one of the funnest adventures I have ever had was pulling a Columbia off of a list of boats that were going to be scrapped. Lead is getting valuable and there is a lot of lead in a old Columbia keel.

But, for $300, it was mine. I have read from a couple of folks that a Columbia was on the bottom of their list. Okay.

However, I walked the deck, did my own survey, and that hull, deck, and keel were solid. That was one of the funnest sailboats I have ever sailed.

Before you slander an old boat just because it is ... the ugliest looking wooden shoe ever invented, take a look at the bal./disp. ratio and ask yourself some solid questions about why they did that back in 1960-whenever.

"How much fiberglass do we need?" Answer, who knows! "Where are people going to sail these things? Anwer, who know! And so, from my experience sailing around SF, then to San Diego, back to SF and up to Seattle in a $300 boat, lol, they built them with one goal in mind - to "Sail."

Too much weather helm? Oh, please, lol! The bal/dist ratio was 45%!

I should have kept it, trailered it to Maine, and sailed it to Portugal. In case you don't know, J. Slocum found only the keel of his gaft-rigged boat in a yard and on a bet for a bottle of refreshment, bet he could pull it out of the mud, fix it up, and sail it around the world. The first boat recorded to sail around the world was a bone-yard-boat.

Wow. I've only heard positives about them, where are all these Columbia-slanderers of which you speak?

I'm beginning to think unicorns run in herds. . .
