Re: FREE, or close to free!
a sunk boat...fun. how hard is it though to acquire a title in florida though? that in and of it self sounds like a challenge. I would think that the marina would be able to secure a title via mechanics/storage lein... much easier for them than a random citizen claiming to have purchased it...
my initial thoughts was something that carl alberg did...

1) Call Florida HSMV and ask. Tell them exactly the situation and ask how to go about titling it.
Vessel Titiling
https://www.flhsmv.gov/motor-vehicle...registrations/
Derelict Vessle
https://www.flhsmv.gov/motor-vehicle...elict-vessels/
2) It may have a title. Look at the VIN on the back of the boat. Get the VIN and use it to track down the actual owner with Florida HSMV. Call/Facebook/write the owner and ask them to sign over the vessel to you. You can usually find a notary public at a FedEx or UPS or a mom and pop printing shop. Done.

Cape DoryTyphoon (Somerset MA)
Another one that's probably junk, but someone might want it. I'd tell the guy that I want the jackstands for hauling it away.

Re: FREE, or close to free!
It has often been said that a "free" boat is the most expensive boat you can buy.
This is an exaggeration of course, but when you find a boat that's available for free, it's because that is what it is worth.
Don't be tempted!

I usually agree. I have found a lets say emerald in the rough. If I simply restore the boat back to original simple form, I would have about what she'd sell for in it. However, I have bigger plans so yeah. It's going to be an expensive endevour, but I like the boat and it's worth it to me to have some fancy tech gear to keep me safe.

Re: FREE, or close to free!
My first sailboat was a free 22' O'Day that someone had donated to an NPO. They didn't want it, so I bought it from them for $200. It had some keel damage and a slow leak. For a number of months, I'd make sure to pump the water out of the bilge before going out in it and eventually a friend and I put some fiberglass on the crack and the boat was fine. I had it for a number of years and had a ton of fun lake sailing it. I learned a lot from that boat. It was originally in about the condition of some of the free boats that I've posted and if I lived near some of those boats, I'd probably snap one of them up.
This one, for instance: https://jacksonville.craigslist.org/...358476243.html
