Re: Do I need replace this raw water hose now

Your only issue is the length of the hose/the distance between the two ends. That will make an emergency repair very difficult. A good quality braided water hose is not very flexible making it hard to get the hose on. Not familiar with that engine and what's involved. May have to loosen or remove the water pump or the pipe. Want to do that while underway. Repair early and with quality,

That you are even asking this question worries me.

If you care about your boat you will practice preventative maintenance by replacing these kinds of things before they fail. This is an easy fix that should cost less than $5.00 with a short piece of hose.

Do you want salt water all over your engine compartment? Do you want to risk your engine conking out just when you need it?

An ounce of prevention....
Ditto.

So, I'm a frugal cheap ass who hates to spend money unnecessarily, but a failure on an intake hose can sink your boat and it's a relatively easy and cheap fix to address. I'm no expert on hose evaluation, but if it were my boat, I'd replace it. If nothing else, for peace of mind.

Re: Do I need replace this raw water hose now

I had a top engine rebuild done in Sicily and the only hose that could not be sourced and was therefor not replaced (it looked fine) of course failed before I even got to Greece. Do not hesitate to fix stuff like this. Check the rest of your boat too as you will most likely find more to repair or replace before you set out.

Re: Do I need replace this raw water hose now

the hose is fully visible, easily accessible, and obviously crying out to be replaced! Reminds me of an engorged wood tick about to burst. Typically removal is the most work, but could use end of a screw driver to pry its end up, heat gun to the hose to increase its flexibility...but seriously would check all other hoses on your boat for same and any cracking, rusty clamps, that all hoses are double-clamped.

Yes, I'd go so far as to suggest you check all your hoses, especially those with red paint on them. They were painted at the same time. Replace the squidgy ones.

Re: Do I need replace this raw water hose now

Is that the factory set up for that engine, or has someone grafted that in there in order to make removing the coolant pump(?) easier? If vibration damping does not make a piece of hose necessary, I would consider a threaded union instead. A self-aligning type might be best.

That’s factory for a Beta Engine, new ones use a short piece of silicone hose.

Possibly it could be the wrong size hose, but more likely it’s old and swollen from getting fuel spilled on it from the filter directly above.
