Re: Crew with a mental block

Oh the same of it,Sailorbob8599 milk in my coffee. It was even worse, it was instant coffee rather than properly brewed stuff. A taking milk in my coffee, I do apologise.

However I understand the problem. One thing I found was changing what went into the coffee cup was a problem. First one had to get used to the idea of sticking some dark brown powder in a cup, adding water, & then expecting the result to be coffee.

Then changing the brand of brown powder gives a different taste to your flavoured water. Then changing from milk, the real cow juice, to a coffee whitener, Coffee Mate in the islands, then to one of the various brands of powdered milk all gave a different tasting brew.

One could get used to any of them given time, but I found it best to standardise. It was no good using real milk when in a port then changing to another whitener when out & about.

I found a particular brand of powdered milk gave the best "milk" when reconstituted, but needed 24 hours to brew after mixing to make it palatable on cereal, & you could carry a years supply. Thus you did not have to change to what was available in a different island group, you just had to mix your white stuff 24 hours before use.

So sorry, I'm afraid I am just too decadent to take my coffee black, & besides, when a sudden lurch can put your coffee in your lap, rather than your mouth, cooling it a little with a liquid from the fridge before passing it to the cockpit is not a bad idea.

I use "Irish Cream" in my coffee, no refrigeration required, the whisky acts as a preservative. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Better outcome than when I tried to refill my daughter's $$$$ coffee maker and put the water in the opening you are supposed to put the whole beans in....

Re: Crew with a mental block

A couple of weeks ago, someone posted that "Cruising is boring..." which brought out a lot of passion from the forum. I think this thread may lend credence to his point. Having said that, my advice is just use Bailey's or one of the cheap knock offs instead. ETOH cures most everything aboard.

What a problem for you...wow.

I use powdered coffee whitener on the boat. Needs no refrigeration. As a bonus, it tastes like crap, thus improving the flavour of my instant coffee greatly.

Uh, like it says on the desiccant packages, DO NOT PUT IN MOUTH. That's only supposed to make the coffee WHITER, you're not supposed to drink it. The bad flavoring is intentional, in case kids get ahold of it and try to eat it. http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...es/biggrin.gif

Is it preserving the cream, or preserving YOU?
