Barient 21 Winch pawl sprins

I just obtained a used pair of Barient 21 two speed winches to mount as secondary winches on my Pearson 35. The pawls look to be in good shape, sharp edges, no rounding. I thought to replace the pawl springs while I have the winches unmounted but cannot find these springs anywhere. I do not want a whole repair kit, I just want 8 springs. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to buy just these springs?

Pretty sure the Lewmar springs fit the Barients (our last boat was all Barient and I know I used Lewmar on those, but been a while). WorstMarine sells a 10-pack for ~$13. MauriPro advertises the Lewmar ones as “Lewmar Barient pawl springs” at $1.62 each.

FWIW, if you can't easily get new ones, the old ones are likely still in usable condition. If they will restore the pawl to its rest position rapidly as you rotate the winch, they should be fine. My Barient springs are now over thirty years old and working normally... and these winches have had a lot of use!

Re: Barient 21 Winch pawl sprins

My 1980 C&C 40's Barient winches are all still operating on its original pall springs. I used a light oil to lubricate them each time I serviced the winches. Be careful they don't POP out of your fingers when you are "pinching" them back in with the palls.

P.S.
I helped a friend service his Barient winches using Lewmar springs and they work just fine. Just be sure to orient the Barient and the Lewmar springs the correct way so they 'seat' properly.

+1

I just noticed this Spring that my pack of "Lewmar" springs were marked as Barients. They do seem to have some minor differences but seem to work fine.

Re: Barient 21 Winch pawl sprins

As already stated, W,Marine has them, one mistake made is to grease the pawl, not good, a drop of oil is all that is needed, a;so people put to much grease on the bearing's, a little dab will do you.

Re: Barient 21 Winch pawl sprins

Up date! Dougtiff is correct. I was able to order a 10 pack of Barient springs only from West Marine on line. Seems these are not carried in the stores. The stores do carry the Barient service packs which have springs, pawls, and retaining clip for five times the price of the springs only.
Thank you all,
