Winch Pawl for 1969 Columbia 22

I have a broken pawl in the winch on a 1969 Columbia 22. I was told it was a Merriman winch by my rigger, but Rig Rite says it is not. Can anybody help me find a new pawl for this winch? I have attached photos to this post, but the pawl is 5/16 with a cylindrical section and a square section sticking out from that. Brass winch.

Winch pawls are often interchangeable across brands. Take the broken one to you favorite chandler and compare with what is in stock. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

That was the first thing I tried. They were not helpful. Maybe need a new chandler.

Sure looks identical to my old Merriman. Welcome aboard here BTW.
Where are you? A place that deals in used boat gear may be able to help, Like Minney's here is southern California.

If you can not find a replacement, take a good one to a machine shop and they should be able to fab one. One off jobs can take some time and be rather pricey but will get you going again.

You may get more specific ideas on sourcing if you tell us where you are.

Try giving a PM to member here named Newhaul. He has a Columbia 29 in your area. I bet it has the same winches. He may know of some good sources around there.

Go to West Marine, look at the pawls for Harken winches. Take the broken one in, and compare for size. If you have calipers, take them also.

Or go to Fisheries supply, which has harken, anderson, and lewmar pawls. They are at 1900 N. Northlake Way. Might be a better option, cause you get to try 3 different makes.

Lots of good ideas here, Thanks. I've tried Fisheries Supply, nothing close. I sent an email to Jeff at Sailboat Wrecking Yard with pictures. Their web site says they have a 1966 C-22. Hopeful.

If they have extra Merrimans complete and in good shape, let me know! I need two more!

Re: Winch Pawl for 1969 Columbia 22

Kim at Rig Rite didn't know what it was, but said it was not Merriman. I guess this was based on seeing the picture of the pawl. Most people think it is a Merriman, though. No marking on the winch that I can see.
