18 year old girl dies in mast fall

Very well known cruising family has suffered the ultimate tragedy when their 18 year old daughter on her first big job on a super yacht has died.

Bethany Smith has grown up on the cruising boat "Cape" with her brother Bryn and mum and dad Sarah and David.
They have been in Caribbean waters for a few years and we have watched the children grow up. The family is extremely well known, and contributes to the cruising community.

Its an incredible shock to our community.

Today would have been her 19th birthday.

My respects and condolences to her lovely family.

Here is an article, selected because of the beautiful photos of this vibrant intelligent girl.

British deckhand, 18, dies after falling from mast of luxury yacht she was cleaning 'when ropes came undone'

Damn. As a father, losing your daughter must be an agony beyond belief.

So sorry for family. I hope they find some solace.

They are merged now, I agree, horrible. My Daughter is 18 too and loves climbing the mast.

I can't imagine being the parent. That would probably be the only thing that could ever separate me from the sea.
