Trinidad Crime Update

We and several other boats are considering a trip south to the Caribbean this winter. Can someone in the Trinidad area give us an update on the crime scene there?

Crime seems to still be a problem at this time. Go to the SSCA website discussion group or: http://64.70.221.24/DiscBoard/viewtopic.php?t=393

if you want to see the latest on Trinidad...go to thr SSCA website and look under 'Destinations'...there is a lot more info there about the ongoing problems from people that are there!

We spent some time in Trini season before last. The crime rates are high. It is not cruisers related but anyone. Even the marina yards have problems. It was like walking around DC.

But if you think big city and prepare accordingly it is no more dangerous than most cities.

The is a second type of crime that doesn't involve muggings. Work in Trini is not always that great. It can be relativly expensive and not all of the workers are of good quality. We saw many and know of many that were ripped off this way. If you are getting work done there get refferences from some of the other long time cruisers.
