Receiving mail in Antigua

Anyone here received mail in Antigua? Preferably Jolly Harbor?

We have an SBI account and need to forward the mail somewhere. But where?

Many thanks.

Might be able to send to Antigua Yacht Club office in Falmouth harbor with "yacht in transit" They have a small office at the Antigua Yacht Club Marina. Might be worth
looking them up and calling. FYI- the Antigua Yacht Club does not run the marina.

Re: Receiving mail in Antigua

If you are staying at the Jolly Harbour marina, then you can have your mail sent to the office there poste restante. If you aren't staying at the marina but are anchored or moored outside, the office might still do it, perhaps for a small fee. Just call or e-mail them, they are quite friendly.

Haven't done it in Antigua but other places the local post office will hold mail for you 'poste restante'. Ask them and see what they say.

Nicholson yachts at English harbour used to hold mine. Enquire via their web site. If not they will advise you who will.

Re: Receiving mail in Antigua

We just checked into Antigua at Jolly Harbour. Seems either Customs or Immigration asked me if I needed or was having mail delivered.

I said No and that was the end of it. I don’t know what they intended when asking that.

Maybe drop by there and see what they have to recommend?

Re: Receiving mail in Antigua

bear in mind in most places in the world Poste Restante only applies to letters and small packages and only those sent via the national carrier of your country.

Couriers or other companies that require a signature cannot deliver items to a post office Poste Restante. Sometimes you get luck like have a couple of times in Spain, sometimes not.

For me receiving mail mostly parcels is one of the biggest challenges of boating. Mostly you'll be doing work on your boat, or fixing something and the local country doesn't stock, or have never hear of the type of part before, or if it does stock it, it's 400% of the original price. Spain is bad for this. Try buying tinned wire, glue lined heat shrink, insulated terminals, it's near impossible. They only use cheap stuff.

Re: Receiving mail in Antigua

Hpeer,
Off topic but Im trying to get recent pictures of a boat for sale located on the hard somewhere in Jolly Harbor. All the broker has said is its been on stands for 3-4 years and storage is paid up until next month. Im located near Seattle WA USA and dont want to fly all the way there if its a pile of junk. Its a dark green or dark blue Camper Nicholsen 42 centre cockpit with a hard dodger and hardtop. Any chance you could take some pictures of the exterior? I would paypal you for your time. Thanks.

I’ll poke around. You got a name for the boat?

Re: Receiving mail in Antigua

I called Fed Ex and they said to address the mail to Jolly Harbor and put my phone number in the address. Then they will call me. So I addressed it to Jolly Harbor Anchorage and gave them my phone and email.

It will be interesting to see how this works out. Here’s hoping.

NOTE: despite being the OP I was not getting any email notifications Of updates for his thread. Many thanks for all the great replies.

Re: Receiving mail in Antigua

I got a couple of shots over the fence. Here are some reduced image size shots.

The yard is gated and locked with a security booth. I would likely need a broker or something to get into the yard. If you can contact a broker I would be willing to have a look at the boat and report what I see. But within the next week.

From across the fence I saw nothing obviously wrong. The 2 things I noticed were self failing winches (with the plastic add one) and there appears to be a glass filler panel above the deck along the aft. That seems to have slightly separated from the hull on both sides.

PM me with your email and I’ll send you the full size boots and we can discuss further there.

Re: Receiving mail in Antigua

As it turns out Fedex called me with the mail and I met the driver at the Jolly Harbor Marina Office drive.

No big deal. I just had to include my local phone number with the address.

Many thanks to all.
