Drama Remnants on South Cat Cay Bahamas

We spent a few days last month walking on the beach at South Cat Cay.
As we walked along looking for cool shells and other things that wash up on beaches we noticed a lot of fiberglass sections, metal deck railing and other boat parts. Later we came upon a makeshift shelter on the west side that was weathered, and on the east side we found more remnants and an un-used signal flare.

It all looks like someone had a really bad time and I'm hopping they made it over to North Cat Cay and rescue.

Was wondering if anyone knows what happened and when?

Why so much negativity here? I am very interested in this South Cay matter.

There are many little Bahamas islands that are used by Haitians and others as way stations on their way to Florida. They build rough shelters to live in until they can move on.
Stop at Cross Cay on the NW side of Andros Island for a view of such a "way station." Probably South Cat Cay is a similar spot.
