Re: Wasp spray

I noticed the post on wasp spray and I would like to make a recommendation for Bear Spray. This stuff shoots out a very concentrated and high powered stream of hot sauce. About a gazillion scoville units. It wont hurt em permanately but they aren't going to be doing much for a half a day or so. And it's legal just about everywhere I'll bet. I'm a bear spray expert because Yellowstone just happens to be in my county and thars grizzlies out thar.

Not totally sure I followed that or the other posts really, but I guess it means to use a flare gun as a weapon legally you hold it side on with your baseball cap facing backwards. ?????

-wonder if the pirates still misdirect boats onto reefs with false lights,,usually if you see the light of god you are beyond communicating with us mere mortals,,whats interesting is how many really lack the faith to carry through with conviction what they say or type{nowadays}..always thought a couple or 3-4 hand grenades would be a great addition to the galley to speed up scuttling enemy craft or just evening the score if its a no-win situation,,after-all is said and done if i -cant have it no-one can,,just greedy is all and all it takes is one pin out .whats the parking ticket for that 100 c notes or a grand for the tamed copper, cheers

Myth

If you think about it, if a Captain did not know exactly where he was - why would he approach a shore simply because the shiny lights said there were people on land (no sh#t )???......remember that this was all before GPS follow the lights "Navigation"

Not to say that if a vessel got wrecked that folks ashore would not be down to loot (and at night they would have been carrying lights)......but that don't mean they were able to lure it in.

Re: Caribbean - Pirated Waters ?

I thought that "luring" trick also involved a few very well endowed (busty) mermaids lounging on the rocks. I think that might indeed lure some of our lust-starved single handers in too close to shore. . . .

Re: Caribbean - Pirated Waters ?

-jeez,wonder if i can get govt disability check for mid-life crisis car payments ? or shall i just tell the doc a bunch of crap "like i hear voices" coming out of my laptop for a whack-job check every month,,oh wait i know i will just keep on working so my crew dont jump ship on me cause there is no ice or A/C or refrigeration of any sort,,people in glass houses shouldnt cast stones,,oh yea i am totally phycotic when necessary and it has safed me in the past and i will buy some grenades on the black-market as easy as i buy a bag of yellowjackets to help me stay awake on those overnight sails/drives ,,simply put i am the trespassers worst nightmare as i wont even bother calling 911 even if im in miami or LA or wherever 911 works,,i sleep very well at night without remorse or a bad conscience as "i was definitely in the rights u know" and i know you dont know what i was thinking and i wont stick around unless compelled to do so,,oh did i mention silencers are easily made out of 2litre plastic pop containers so dont worry about me "waking the neighbourhood" as "u dont even see me",,im that average looking guy standing at the check-out counter behind you at walmart with a 44caliber derringer in my pocket and looking/waiting for a chance to use it on some bully,,cheers

-no legal use if shooting person same as no legal use if cutting up person with electric saw to fit parts out porthole, ha,ha, how about that sense of humor,,you should read an old penthouse interview with an old gangster named vesco{perhaps its online}what he does to allieviate boredom while exiled on some island wouldnt sit well with most,,anyhow vesco got sold out by castro years later to the usa so i guess his pay-offs to castro couldnt compete with usa relaxing sanctions and perhaps vesco was the reason that usa residents can now sail to cuba, piracy is overrated but robbery/murder is still a problem and to ignore it is to tempt fate which many do for prolonged periods of time,i believe people make their own luck whether good or bad and it is always smart to have a plan for every possible situation,so if i am considered paranoid{so b it},,just keep my opinion in mind which is simple as the stranger{trespasser} chose his/her fate by coming into my territory un-invited,and i dont care what country/language u speak common sense says off what you dont own and when my infared motion detactor goes off the trespasser best vacate or prepare to meet thy maker as that quiet beep, beep, beep means get lost fast cause the reaper{me}is coming,,and you best believe i mean business anywhere on this earth with no fear of courtrooms or un-righteous people and plenty of c-notes to back it up or at least by food while in prison .so if a person willing to defend oneself needs anger management than "bring it on" cause the response time after calling 911 in most cities wont save your life, most 911 calls report homicides allready committed, cheers and stay safe out there

-first time boytoy complained about toilet/shower years ago taught me something, if their given jakuzzi spa bathtubs at home than you best have mega-yacht money if you want the boytoy to stay on sailboat or leave ,wife at home with amex and girlfriends and get crew{preferablably young with better bod than wife} ,after some relatives and associates went through costly divorces resulting in at least one associates long-term plan getting deep-sixed i know fully understand"if it flies, floats or "puts out" lease it" as it is cheaper,,dont want to make enemies on "how much women cost to run" thread as i already know divorce is best avoided as escorts at 500 a throw are cheaper than lawyers and alimony,my boytoy is at the casino as i type this and has no idea just how much i love her and understand her need for creature comforts,,i dont expect her to suffer through storms at sea or inadequate baths as i have or a diet of canned food when necessary,u gotta pay to play when it comes to most women and that is a fact ,fairwinds

Re: Caribbean - Pirated Waters ?

DOJ - Back in the day shore side ship breakers would hobble a horse and hang a lantern around its neck to simulate a vessel riding at anchor, would lure the unwary closer in and I am sure either the current or wind would put the unfortunate vessel on the rocks, then the shore folk would murder the crew, sack and burn the ship.

Wrecking (shipwreck) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I don't doubt that some folks ashore would be willing to do that, nor that some may have killed the survivors - but that different from being able to lure a ship ashore. A lighted beacon usually means danger. or it's sitting on land

Myth probably came from survivors who saw Wreckers (at night with lanterns - it being dark at night ) stripping the vessel.

They run to Cuba in an hour or two, load up with people, drugs whatever and come back. Make two or three trips in a day (before the boat is even reported missing) and then scuttle the boat; home free.

Firearms will get you thrown in jail in many countries; not worth the risk (and I'm an NRA Life member) or the hassle onboard a boat. There is a very good chance you'll at some point be boarded and searched, do you want to spend several years in a third world jail?
When approaching Curacao to clear in a few years ago the coast guard zoomed out to stop us. 5 men boarded and searched our boat from top to bottom. Every locker and floor hatch and every conceivable hidey-hole was searched, including fridge and freezers emptied. Of course nothing was found. But if we had any firearms aboard, they would definitely have found them and we would had a very difficult time. Found out later that the coast guard had confused our boat with another one picked up on their radar -- and they had stopped and searched the wrong boat.

Lucky for us we had no firearms or contraband aboard and everything had been properly declared at our previous port.

As for "pirates" in the Caribbean -- one must first define what a pirate is. The Indian Ocean has pirates -- they capture vessels at sea and take both you and your boat hostage, if you are not killed outright. At least 95% of the incidents reported as piracy in the Caribbean are simple theft. IMHO, that is not piracy.

Yes, definitions are the key to having a intelligent discussion. If we are using two different definitions of a word it is difficult to understand each other.
- - However, to each their own, IMHO "Piracy" to me is any criminal offense - theft, assault, murder, etc., that occurs on the water to a vessel. This is a classification that excludes the same things happening to a vessel that is in a marina or attached to a seawall, pier, etc. In those cases the terms, theft, assault, etc. are relevant.
- - So in essence, "Piracy" is just a catch-all term or subject heading for any criminal directed or occurring to a vessel not docked. The databases I have seen generally avoid the term and just use the actual type of assault/theft/whatever to describe the incident.
- - I would, however, take humble exception with the use of the term "simple theft" - IMHO any invasion of my home/property by a thief is a major occurrence and there is nothing "simple" about it. I would posit that the phrase is similar in usage to the phrase "simple rape." To the victim the use of "simple" is denigrating.
