Re: BVI Sailing in december

We have NEVER been on a mooring ball overnight in the BVIs during five years of having the boat there plus various cruises over to the VI's from St Martin. The USVI's yes on a NP mooring with the Senior Citizens Discount :-) and no anchoring allowed in the National Park.

There are plenty of good spots without moorings in the BVI's also you can pick up a mooring and exit it around 15:00 at no charge.....for say shopping in Sopers Hole or North Sound.

BVI NP moorings are not free though but there are really only two spots when you need to hang on a NP Mooring The Indians and The Caves and even then you can anchor in the next bay to the caves and dink into the dinghy moorings You can anchor at or close to The Baths and dink into their dinghy mooring lines.

At anchor in The Bight (NI) we got chastised for doing the mooring man out of income..that brought a not pleasant smile to the admiral face as we had worked out that he was earning in excess of $2,000 a night. I hear that mooring charges are now $50.00 a night GULP!!!!

Re: BVI Sailing in december

The rates in the BVI are still $30. The only place that a charter boat might have trouble finding an anchoring spot is "The Bight" on Norman Island, since the water is 50' outside of the mooring field (or too close to shore / dock). I regularly anchor in the bight and it is true that the mooring collector buzzes the boat there.
