Marinas Guardianage this summer in the Aegean

We are planning a trip in the direction of skiathos this summer. We are currently in the Ionian.
We would like to leave the boat in the aegean for a few weeks in the summer to return to UK.

Does anyone know of a good place we can leave the boat for a few weeks. Say within 50 mmiles of athens airport?

Regards

Nimrod

Re: Marinas Guardianage this summer in the Aegean

You are not exactly spoilt for choice near athens with super yachts and local boats keeping things pretty full.

Lavrio is a good option that we have used and would recommend. Its not as formal as Olympic next door (you will probably have to arrange guardianage directly once you are there) but its also a fraction of the price.

Very handy to Athens airport which is why its a major charter hub (handy if your needing any work done but full to busting on changeover days) The towns a bit shabby to look at but it grows on you with plenty of friendly locals.

Hi Barra
Do you have any knowledge of marinas, boatyards in the eastern Peleponese around Porto Cheli.

Regards

Could try Porto Rafti... its not a marina but you should be able to arrange something with the Harbour Master...

Porto cheli has 3 yards I think including the next bay along. No marina though. You could probably get a mooring off one of the yards but lavrio is a much closer and better option IMHO.

I sailed last summer from Corfu to Skiathos . Up the inside of Evia and back down the outside . Some nice villages and Islands , really worthwhile.
On the north coast of Aegina Island are 3 or more Marinas , that are offering very good prices , that might be of help to you . There is a high speed train to Pireaus from the Airport and many types of ferries every 20 min to Aigina . Good luck - Garth

Hi
We have just wintered in Olympic Marina near Lavrion, 45 mins from airport and very secure.
we came through the canal last year, and it cost 240 euro for a 45ft boat.
The Agean, and in particular the Cycladies are beautiful BUT be prepared for a lot of wind.!!!

No Chance in Porto Rafti. The quay is used by the local mafia who guard it jealously. There is nowhere else along side. As to leaving her at anchor, even with guardianage, your insurer may not like that at all.

There are 2 yards in Aegina where a number of boats I know have hauled for the summer months - prices are competitive and it is easy to get to Athen Airport from there via hydrofoil or ferry to Piraeus. Much safer out of the water than in when all those charter boats are around!

You'll find a reasonably comprehensive description of layup possibilities among the port details listed on this page , together with links to web sites of the yards (where those are available!)
