5 million dead

A sad milestone was passed today in the Covid-19 pandemic...an estimated 5 million people have died from the virus.

My hope is that as a result of people being vaccinated and heightened public health awareness we will be able to bring Covid-19 deaths down to what influenza deaths are, which is around 500,000 per year worldwide.

We used to live mostly carefree lives despite 500,000 people dying from the flu every year. Covid-19 is here to stay, so I hope deaths are reduced to a point where it fades from public and political consciousness within the next couple years.

Congress has increasingly relied on user fees [Prescription Drug User Fee Act, or PDUFA], rather than congressional appropriations, to fund the FDA, a situation that contrasts with the funding provided to CDC, and NIH.
WHO gets its funding from two main sources: Member States, paying their assessed contributions (countries’ membership dues), and voluntary contributions, from Member States, and other partners.

Please don't equate my defense of vaccine safety, as support for Pharma. I'm definitely no fan, and believe that the pharmaceutical industry should must be very heavily regulated.

I ask, for the future trajectory of this thread, that people take a pause on whatever their personal theories are regarding Covid-19 to reflect upon the societal weight of 5 million dead, who mostly had to die alone, without family nearby.

Yes!!!...exactly! I have lost one close friend and one acquaintance. I had to watch my daughter-in-law, her husband and 2 of their 3 children go through it all the time wondering if they were going to make it. People really can no longer be in denial as they have been over a year ago, but it sure doesn't stop them from trying to minimize it.
