Good find! Loads of these about across Marketplace and other “‘non-Yachtworld” sites. Also many older Odays, Catalinas, Hunters, etc are put there on the east coast that would fit the coastal cruising mandate well.

Thanks.
We just upgraded to a Bénéteau 46 and currently cruising the Bahamas.

Our C&C. 42 for sale is a steal at this price.

27-30’ range will fit your budget. Still do it. Small boats can be great.

For $50k? There are plenty of 34-37ft boats out there to be had in the $20k range.

27-30 doesn’t fit the OPs requirements of being able to have friends stay.

Re: on the look out

Before you buy in Florida, take a look at what’s available in Grenada/Trinidad……has advantage of already being in Carribbean, so long passage prep not required, and will likely include more cruising type gear for same $$

It’s a good idea, but 1.) refit / parts availability in Grenada is limited and 2.) Fl to Bahamas is a walk in the park whereas cruising north from Grenada is / can be a lot tougher.

Re: on the look out

Yachtworld basically useless for boats under 50k. Most brokers dont bother with them. I would search locally on fb forums, clist, sailboats for sale by owner. Also visit as many marinas as possible to look for 'For Sale' signs on boats. Good luck in your search!

I would drop your goal length slightly at that price. Something like an older Tayana 34 that might be reasonably outfitted could be had at that price point.

Re: on the look out

Check craigslist in the US Virgin Islands.

Here's one that is ready to go today, and she is already in the Caribbean.

I am staying for a week so keen to look at as many as possible, thankyou for taking the time to read this, if you or anyone you know is looking to sell then I would be keen to chat. many thanks.
my 38' hunter in cocoa is for sale. all the cruising upgrades you would want, except perhaps a water maker. new sails, new spinnaker, new solar, new lithium, new chargers, new dodger/bimini, new anchoring system.....

you don't pay the sales tax if you get the boat out in.....30 days? but you can buy an extra 60 days for around $450 if I recall

I concur. when need good sails, good dodger/bimini, solar, lithium, anchors etc etc those $50k boats need a lot of work. If you DIY maybe you can get it done for under $150k but how much of your sabbatical do you spend working on the boat rather than cruising?

Re: on the look out

You can do it. There are plenty of vessels for sale in your price range.
You will need shallow draft in the Bahamas and a lot of the Caribbean.
There are a few Morgan Out Island Ketch 41.6' boats for sale. They only
draw 4'6" of water and they are generally in your price range leaving you some money to
fix it up and outfit.
