Just steer clear of Esmeraldas and the Colombian border areas.
Present probs are Colombian drug gang related.
I always enjoy reading about ' prison riot - 50 dead!'
The dead aren't killed by the guards - its gang on gang violence.

Hi, Bill,
Do you have any documentation concerning boarding, robberies or stabbings on boats is US or Canadian waters?

Those appear to be thefts of boats from alongside - they don't count as boardings, robberies or stabbings.

Hi, Boatman,
If that's true . . . I'm never going to a marina in America again!
Cheers! Rognvald

"Boarding" implies coming aboard at sea. Alongside, they're embarking.
"Robbery" is theft by force. There was no force, nor threat of force, so it is just theft, burglary or larceny.

They are only embarking if they are planning on going on a voyage .

Boarded is the correct usage in this case - as in 'after we tied up we were boarded by the Customs' rummage squad'.

Or would you say 'the Customs' rummage squad embarked after we tied up'??

Aeroplane passos have a boarding pass.

And I will go aboard my ship before she sails but after the passengers embark.

.....
This is getting kind of silly...

Some bad guy walks down the pier, steps onto the boat and steals it. Did he embark or did he board? Does it matter?

Embarked - go on board a ship
Flag-rank officers get piped aboard.

So if I go aboard a ship for lunch with the Old Man I have embarked? Don't think so.

The only place I have had people board my boat and steal stuff was in Stanley, FI. They certainly didn't embark.
Not locals - a-holes of another yacht.
And yes I know which yacht.

It ain't a two way street.

If you embark, you have gone aboard.
If you have gone aboard, you might not have embarked.

Re: Piracy at Barranquilla

One would think context would be enough. Boarding has many meanings, but in this context it means this:
