Strange story.

The delivery captain who brought it back probably has something to say about the rigging. I can think of rigging failures that would cause injury or death, but are otherwise easily fixable. A broken mainsheet and the uncontrolled boom while attempting to re-secure it is just one example. Depending on the nature of the failure, there isn't anything suspicious about the passengers.

Yes. That boom is massive and yet the mainsheet seems woefully underbuilt for it. A storm and a 67.7 foot boat with apparently just 2 experienced sailors, there is plenty that can go wrong.

Really sad, my condolences to the family and friends of the couple.

So sad. I saw a small sailboat motor by last year. The front stay hardware gave. Smashed the helm real good but only minor injuries. They were very lucky.
The boat looks like something happened with the boom and traveller

We know that boat, they sailed the Salty Dawgs two years ago and we've seen it around.

Big boats have big loads, you have to be mindful of the power and the peril it presents.

I don't know, Green Wave. It could be as simple as husband goes forward to put in a deeper reef, traveler b lock fails, boom comes across, whacks him, and he drops on deck; wife runs forward, focused on helping husband, not remembering to keep very low, and boom gives her a head injury. It, of course, could be the other way around, but it is a real caution, because we humans are really drawn to save our partners, and of course, keep the boat safe. So, I'm wondering why you think there might have been foul play.

My condolences to family and friends, awful thing to have happened. And yes, huge forces at work on a 67 footer.

Looking at the pictures the bimini seems to be damaged and the boom is resting on the dodger. It looks like the boat has a roller reefing main? Maybe something happened and the boom was not constrained while reefing creating a hazard? What a terrible shame.

A boom on the head would explain one being killed but the second is hard to picture unless the traveller also broke.
The boom is definitely down but could be the coast guard pinned it down to secure the traveller. I think if that boom were swinging free in a storm low there would be no dodger

In short: wife is thrown to leeward in exposed cockpit, husband hurried back and gets injured as well. Experienced crew stabilize them and get boat back under control but too far from shore for a quick rescue, both died during eventual evacuation.
