I might, but I doubt it. Cite the research for that, please.

Steven may be slightly confused. [conflating atmospheric jet streams with a geomagnetic jet stream]

There’s a jet stream in our core, but, it has nothing to do with our [4*] atmospheric jet streams.

We would normally associate jet streams with the weather, but,, scientists have discovered a ‘jet stream’ deep below Earth’s surface [1] – and it’s speeding up.
A paper [1], published in the journal Nature Geoscience, explains that the field exists because of an "ocean of superheated, swirling liquid iron" that makes up the outer core.

How Mars Lost Its Magnetic Field - and Then Its Oceans

Chemical changes inside Mars’s core caused it to lose its magnetic field. This, in turn, caused it to lose its oceans. But how?

Research [2], led by the University of Tokyo, and published in 2022, in Nature Communications, offers one reason why: Billions of years ago, Mars lost its magnetic field. Without the protection that a magnetic field offered, the atmosphere was stripped, and eventually, the oceans evaporated, as water vapor in the atmosphere, was lost to space.

* Atmospheric Jet Streams are narrow bands of strong wind, that generally blow from west to east, all across the globe. Earth has four primary jet streams: two polar jet streams, near the north and south poles, and two subtropical jet streams, closer to the equator.

Re: Hurricane 'Otis'

Now news that a gust of 205 MPH was recorded during Otis. Reportedly would be one of the strongest gusts ever recorded on the planet.

Re: Hurricane 'Otis'

A 205 MPH gust would be one of the strongest gusts ever recorded.
The strongest wind gust [not related to tornados], on record, is a 253 mph gust, on Barrow Island, in Australia, during Tropical Cyclone Olivia, on April 10, 1996, according data from the World Meteorological Organization.
Before then, Mount Washington held the wind record, with a 231 mph gust, on April 12, 1934.

Yes, the storms are getting more furious. All over the world.

Re: Hurricane 'Otis'

Despite recent gains in forecast skill, boats and ships still sustain weather-related damage, with cargo, vessels, and lives, continuing to be lost at sea.
GOOS is currently engaging with the shipping community to expand metocean observations, from all vessels at sea, for the benefit of services to the mariner.

The value of metocean observations cannot be overstated, particularly in under-sampled areas such as the higher latitudes. More quality observations, taken more often, will improve forecasts for all vessels at sea.
Weather related losses at sea must be reduced. To do so requires “all hands on deck” from ships’ crews to forecasters, to collect better data, improve forecasts, and enhance maritime safety.

The Ocean Observing System Report Card [1] devotes a special chapter to marine heatwaves. Often extending deep below the sea surface, marine heatwaves have disastrous effects on marine ecosystems, including shifts in locations of fish, and high mortality rates of vulnerable species.
They also influence other extreme events on land, such as droughts and heatwaves, and the rapid intensification of tropical cyclones.

“Due to climate change, marine heatwaves are becoming more frequent, more intense and lasting longer. They now occur in all ocean basins, putting an array of ocean ecosystems and communities at risk,” says the Report Card [1].

In 2022, despite the occurrence of La Niña - a climatic phenomenon characterized by cooler-than-normal global mean sea surface temperatures, 58% of the ocean surface suffered at least one marine heatwave event. The development of El Niño, with warmer-than-normal sea surface temperatures in the Pacific, means that it is likely that 2023-2024 will witness even more intense marine heatwaves. This was evidenced by a northeastern Atlantic heatwave in June 2023.

and Climate Variables. These observations

change, accurate weather and extreme event
prediction
, monitoring biodiversity for achieving
key global targets, and informing sound

governments around sustainable development ...”

BOLO
Meet Vicente Herrera - he has been a stable for the last decade in Acapulco and has been helping the Panama Posse and many other yachts in Acapulco - he has been missing since Otis hit - he lived on his yacht in near La Marina de Acapulco - we have called him every other day and his voice mail box is full and his whatsapp's are not delivered. If you see or hear from him please let us know

These are our cruising waters! I expect a big increase in insurance premiums. Sigh.

Re: Hurricane 'Otis'

Hurricane Otis leaves survivors in Mexico uncertain about the future

Residents of Acapulco, Mexico, are sifting through what remains of their homes and belongings after Hurricane Otis battered the area. Many have no option but to rebuild using what's left, with one man likening it to 'starting life from scratch' as he sat perched above the wreckage of his home.
