Re: Mantus

After reading this thread and seeing the pix of the chain hook, it looks like a good hook and I'd like to buy one just as soon as you switch to the more durable gate material. When do you expect that will be? Would you please update this thread when hooks with the new material gates are available?

Mantus

The Mantus swivel will NOT orient the anchor correctly or change its orientation at all. I'm amazed they didn't know that.
However I have found that with my Rocna and I can assume a Mantus too, that just making way just a little in reverse, will flip the anchor around the correct way, every time, just as making 1 kt or more forward will make it come up backwards, every time.
It's the way the thing is shaped, it will flip around oriented to the way it presents the least drag through the water.
So now rather than mucking with a boat hook, I stay in the cockpit and just have her moving slowly in reverse and bring the anchor up, it works every time with a Rocna, and I'd bet a Mantus too.
I have a Mantus swivel on my Rocna, it is a brilliant piece of equipment in my opinion.

It's does flip but by the time it's out of the water it already starts to rotate. We have a spade.

Re: Mantus

I have tested Mantus 6kg vs Rocna 10kg vs Storm 4kg.

I was shocked, take a look on the video:

Re: Mantus

Ok I’ll start. Always skeptical of people who show anchor tests in non-natural settings. Especially if I can’t see if there’s a nice pre-softened trench for the preferred anchor and the others have to skip across on hardpack.

Re: Mantus

Mantus is a good anchor. Tis terrain is dificult, this is not sand, this is hard sludge.

Re: Mantus

Thanks, interesting videos. Looked like the Bruce bit well when it engaged.

It also seems like the modified storm anchor shank keeps the setting angle very low? In theory this should aid setting but reduce ultimate holding power once set.

The slots seem to work nicely. Good to see more anchor experiments.

Re: Mantus

but my anchor never skips around like that so the testing method is not the same as a boat with an anchor and my anchor is not supposed to be as good as these models...
the method of testing is flawed!

Re: Mantus

I bought a storm anchor from Mantus, I called and asked about bolt size, mentioned I would like a spare set, and asked how much. He said nothing, took my address and had new set in my hands in a few days.

I was impressed by not only the quick answer on the phone, but to send them free of charge was outstanding. Also before we hung up he said anything anytime just call.

Just My 2 cents.

Cheers, Pop"s
