Never mind. The list is too long.

Message to Salty Sailor.

Perhaps you are noticing that your question is extremely broad which leads to answers that are also so broad as to not be very useful.

If you seriously want to sail and cruise a very big part of doing it well and safely is the ability to be independent and self reliant. A good way to start developing those skills might be to start reading, study and research on your own. Once you have a basic knowledge you will be able to target your questions in ways that will give you more useful information back.

For example,"what are boats I can buy for under $50,000 with room for three people and shallow draft that are good for cruising the Bahamas?"

Re: What are the most popular boat company's for new and old boats?

Wouldn't it be easier to list the unpopular boats instead?

Guess it would be fun he see the ones that make both lists!

Check out Mahina Expeditions website. There is an excellent list of suitable boat models

Someone tried that a couple of years back. Got closed down faster than a guns on boats thread.

So you all must be to young ? for if it wasn't for the " Westsail 32 " and there ad campaign " Westsail the World " alot of the cruising stories we read about today might not of happened . hard to believe they are not on the list . look in the back ground of many pictures and there will be one anchored or docked .

Re: What are the most popular boat company's for new and old boats?

Having been sailing for a while, it is interesting to see how this all has evolved. Some boats that I thought were first tier back in the eighties are definitely getting long in the tooth. I'm thinking of all those full-keeled beauties with teak decks and lots o bronze. Cabos and HansCs etc. Maybe Passport. HR seems to have stood up nicely (but those damnable decks again!) How have the Oh-so-classy Oysters hold up to the test of time?

And the Bay Yugo back in the eighties (Hunter) didn't all up and sink like we thought they would! Sure, their stanchions were noodles back then. But they have proven out that market niche, and have tons of boats still sailing.

Middle tier boats that seem to have had their meddle tested in my mind are Pearson, Sabre, Bristol and Caliber. I used to think Beneteau was trash, but after a few charters, I realized this was more about my snobbery. Their boats perform and they might have more examples out there than anyone. They meet their market niche with decent boats.

These days, I've gone down the multihull path, and that's a whole different ball of wax!

Nonsuch was not a manufacturer. Hinterhoeller Yachts was the maker of the Nonsuch.

Re: What are the most popular boat company's for new and old boats?

In light of the passage of time, and the now all too real concern of catastrophic keel bolt failure, the older PEARSON sailboats are getting a new fan base. They were heavily built fg boats with (mostly, I think) encapsulated keels. The proven ability of the smaller boats like the Triton and Ariel make them desirable to anyone looking for a blue water pocket cruiser able to sail around the world. The larger vessels, like the 36, have been popularized by youtube channels like Sailing Uma. Their videos chronicle their DIY refit of a 40 year old boat and their subsequent cruise of the Caribbean and beyond....

And as the past owner of a 1972 P30, my experience with the Pearson brand was excellent as well. In fact, I'm kicking myself for selling....it was setup just how I like. Instead of selling, I should have sailed south and done a lap of paradise (the Caribbean).

I would like to see it but right now. I do not have a job. I’m trying to get a job. And at my free time I’m reading up, or watching sailing videos. I want to go to a lake to sail there small sailboats there. So I posted to find out what other boat company’s are out there. Thanks for the offer. Maybe if I get a job and you still have the boat. I will contact you so I can expect the boat. [emoji3]

So here is a very partial list of some of the popular boats mainly from the bigger companies, old and new, in no particular order, just as I think of them..

Pearson
Morgan
Catalina
Hunter
Beneteau
Jeanneau
Island Packet
Pacific Seacraft
Tayanna
Hinkley
Moody
CS
C&C
CSY
Oyster
O'Day
Spencer
Swan
Cabo Rico
Valiant
Tartan
Cape Dory

Most of these companies are medium to large boat builders and produced hundreds or even thousands of boats. I'm sure I have forgotten lots and these are just monohulls. Catamarans will be another list.

There are almost 10 boats on this list that aren’t being built anymore.
Gozzard is one of the few geared up to build new and currently refit older boats.

Correct. Many of these are no longer in production but the original question said new and old boats.
