It's all about being at the right place at the right time I believe.... In the last 3 months, I saw 5 different boats within my range and the deals didn't go through for different reasons.... (i.e. A handsome Hughes 38 has been sold for $11K and I was about 1 day late)



So, I know it is possible...... I've posted this, just to reach out more people and find out if someone they know has a boat within my range. (Your uncle, neighbor, friend from the club etc)

Don't let the people here discourage you. Critics Forum would be a more appropriate name for this site these days.

I'm not in a market for a boat, but if I were, I'd look in La Paz. It seems to be the final resting place for many well-cruised boats - any many will be in within your budget.

I am writing from Nova Scotia. I purchased a 46' steel pilothouse cutter in 2011 and sailed with my wife and two children from here to Grenada - over several years. If interested in discussing this in a bit more detail, please let me know and perhaps we can email details. The boat is mostly wonderful except she needs some patch work on the otherwise sound hull. We are not looking for much given that it is a North Atlantic blue water cruiser - not a motor sailor - and lying in Grenada; a place where the market for such a boat is almost non-existent. Hi I have purchased a 34 Irwin citation that had just finished it's second circumnavigation with no major issues apart from losing a couple of anchors and chain plus a propeller and a bbg. due to horrendous weather.Not bad for a cheaper boat. The couple I purchased from said they would have gone a third time but at 77 and 80 they thought a bit old.

You're doing the right thing by searching every nook and crevis for what you want, it's out there. Don't let the nay sayers dissuade you. I found a Pearson 424 with solid bones for $35,000. PO was an elderly gentleman that had taken very good care of it until alzheimers kept him from the boat. It sat for several years so the outside took a beating in the sun but the inside was in very good shape.

Good luck finding your s/v. I've been looking for 7 months now for a 40'-42' to sail down the west coast from canada to panama then up into the Caribbean. The tub toy I have now wont make that trip.

A Cat27 has been RTW so yours could make the trip.

It wouldn't be optimum but it is doable. That said I desire to have a boat that can tolerate some of my shortcomings as a sailor.
