The eye made landfall in the Lower Keys about an hour ago. News feed showed footage of the surf crashing over the sea wall and hit the Southernmost Point marker at the end of the strip. The worst surge will come on the backside of the eye as it pulls in water from the Gulf.

Excellent drone video of Nanny Cay marina (Nanny Cay, Tortola, BVI), showing many boats damaged and many boats upside down due to Hurricane Irma.

Very bad news for Caribbean. Makes me ask the questions; how will they dispose of all the fibreglass? Can it be recycled?. What will they do with it on the islands?
Many questions, I know.

That's a question I'd wondered too. Fibreglass is almost impossible to recycle and even just reducing a boat down down in to small pieces, say with a chainsaw, takes considerable time and fuel.
It will be interesting to see what does happen.
Lots of fuel and oil must be leaking out too from the upturned boats. Quite an environmental disaster.

Yea...was wondering the same thing. Live newscaster said storm surge may be an issue tomorrow in some areas.
