Victron Multiplus -- Overload Condition Fault

I've come back to my boat to find the Multiplus switched off and showing an "overload" fault. It was set to float charge the house bank while I was away. The bank was isolated with no loads on it.

Must not have happened long ago because the batts were at about 80%. Managed to get it started again by switching it off and on again at the unit (switching at the Multi Control did nothing). But soon quit and gave "overload" fault again. Tried different current limiter settings from very high to very low; no difference. At high settings the current drawn from shore would go up to 15 amps (@230v), which is abnormal (normal is 10 amps at full bulk charge).

Now tried the inverter with shore switched off, and it worked normally. Now charging with it set with inverter "on" (rather than "charger only"), and so far it's working.

Anyone have any experience with such a fault? I fear I have another bad board, but as the Russians say -- hope dies last.

Re: Victron Multiplus -- Overload Condition Fault

Is the Vectron Multi a US 60hz version that you are using at 50hz? In some dim memory I remember hearing, or reading that over time using it like that will sometimes cause odd problems.

No, it's 230/50 used with 230/50 generator and shore power.

It's a rather old unit -- I guess 9 years old by now.

Re: Victron Multiplus -- Overload Condition Fault

did you have things plugged into, that may have inverted if the dock lost power? over the wattage of the inverter.

No, I don't leave the I/C set on "inverter on", when I'm off the boat. It was set on "charge only".

So the "overload" fault indication is obviously some kind of anomaly.
