Some light reading if anyone is interested in the actual science.>

No no, I am quite sure everyone was talking about the next ice age back then. The maths are 12,000 years since the last one and they are 20,000 years apart, so we are past the half way point. People should stock up on gloves and woolly scarfs.

Not everyone, scientists mostly weren't.

Though without google scholar you would be at the mercy of whatever the papers decided to print..

Re: Solar prices are about to go up

Does anyone remember that we are currently in what is called holocene period which is an interglacial period of the current ice age.

I'd love to see a link to that "NASA Report" about the oceans going down. It's not happening in Boston Harbor. Up 1ft in 100 years.

How about that lifepo4 bank in your prius ( or other items) they both produce massive amounts of pollution.
Great point.

Electric Vehicles are only pollution free at the point of use. They still need energy and that's usually supplied over the grid meaning EV's export pollution from city centres, they don't reduce it.

Lithium isn't a clean technology given the damage mining it does to the environment. Said the man that's bought LiFePo4 cells for his boat because of the very low internal resistance.

The sad reality (also one of the strongest verifications of the idea of 'manufactured consent') is that when one googles 'ice age graphics', the first five images you get are

The sixth one,

illustrates that ice ages occur on roughly 100,000 year spans. While there is much debate about this (a sure sign that there's something to be said for it), the evidence strongly suggests that Milankovitch cycles are responsible for a large to very large percentage of the affect...

Worst case, meaning electricity produced by coal, the total carbon footprint (including manufacturing) of EVs is similar to gas cars. However, where electricity is produced in a more environmentally friendly way their carbon footprint is significantly lower & if they were fueled by electricity from solar or wind there'd be no comparison. Also, as batteries improve so does the carbon footprint of EVs.

The ‘electric cars aren’t green’ myth debunked – shrinkthatfootprint.com

Utility companies are already investing in solar & wind technology so this may not be as far off as some might think.

Re: Solar prices are about to go up

The thing is that although there is pollution in the manufacture of EVs there is no, or at least very, very little, pollution released into the air from driving. Fossil vehicles are always releasing pollutants, even after manufacture causing many health problems, especially in the larger cities.

yes pure ev vehicles are greener than their pure petrol counterparts. I never stated anything less however this current line has dealt with pure ev I was pointing out the emissions and pollution of hybrid vehicles with limited electric range and actually dependant on fossil fuel for 90% of its motive force. Hiding behind the ( a hybrid so its eco-friendly ) mantra.

Actually, this thread was about the imminent rise (if true) in solar prices...

Re: Solar prices are about to go up

Solar and wind are great for boats because they carry large battery banks. For the general population they are cost plus because baseline generation must be large enough to meet demands and provide grid stability. Renewables make electricity more expensive because of this.
Cost is baseline generation.
Plus is renewables such as wind or solar.
The Germans are finding out they need new coal plants to insure baseline requirements are met and provide grid stability that their renewables cannot provide.
Some people argue the renewables can reduce costs with cycling units but cycling cannot be done with nukes, is difficult with coal but can be done with gas turbines here in the US, not so much in Europe, where nat gas is too expensive. Anyway, no simple answers to a complex question.

And to stay on topic, I don't think solar panel prices will spike, I think prices will continue to fall.

threads morph and drift around eventually they come back to the base idea ( that is if the original premise is proven to have merit)
