Aluminum Anodes

I have a steel boat. Aluminum anodes can be bought with steel or aluminum attachment straps. I happen to have a set of anodes with steel straps. Will this set work for my hull or do I need to replace them with aluminum strapped anodes. Thank you

Re: Aluminum Anodes

I cannot think of any reason to use aluminum straps, on a steel hull.
I'd stick with the standard steel strap, if only to simplify welding.

Re: Aluminum Anodes

The only reason I could think of having aluminium straps is because they're slightly easier to drill than steel straps. It's very common to bolt those strap anodes onto a steel hull. The advantage is that you can change them underwater.
Cheers

Re: Aluminum Anodes

I gather your in fresh water (= aluminum anodes).
On our steel ship (in salt water) we use zinc anodes with metal straps.
