PathMaker Battery Switch

Hi there this my first post!

I just bought a C&C33 M2 and it has this battery switch (see photo). There is also a shore charger and a standard 1-2-All battery selector switch. Does it optimize battery charging and is it dependent on the position of battery selector switch? I think both batteries are the same dual purpose house / starting batteries.

Can somebody please explain in simple terms what the PathMaker switch does? What would happen if I turn it off?

This is all new to me and I have a steep learning curve ahead of me.

Thanks! [emoji1]

Google

pathmaker vsr OR combiner

Connects Starter batt and House bank together when charging is active, isolates them otherwise, based on presence of high/low voltage.

Like a Both switch but automatic.

ACR / VSR is tge more modern version.

leave it in auto. it will allow both batteries to charge from the engine. and maybe also needed for shore charging depending on setup.

Hi there thanks for the responses.

A few follow up questions...

1. Does it matter if battery selector switch is on 1, 2 or All?

2. When batteries are isolated which of the 2 is isolated? What if I always wanted to ensure battery 1 was for starting?

Thanks!

Andy

Re: PathMaker Battery Switch

Again you need to figure out these details, likely with a pro.

Can be wired any number of ways, many not useful by today's standards.

Isolated **from** what? Charge source, or loads? Which loads?

Is there a manual switch **and** automatic combiner connecting the two sides?

Congratulations on your new boat.

Learning boat electrical systems can be fun.

Start here:

Electrical Systems 101

You'll need to start tracing wires, physically, unless your PO gave you wiring diagrams. Mine did, but it was wrong when I traced the wires. You HAVE to do it yourself.

Good luck.

And if you can't, pay a pro to teach you.
