My
boat has an older
Balmar alternator, model 90-100. It is the
single output version. These were, apparently, built by Lestek, and were discontinued around 20 years ago.
The
alternator appears to have failed after the
engine was started on haulout day with the
battery selector switch in the "off" position. I suspect diodes.
The diodes in these are a press-fit type, like the ones in this link:
https://www.wholesalemarine.com/balm...egative-diode/
I do have the diodes in my spares but am wondering about the difficulty of
installation, specifically whether they can be pressed in place with ordinary hand tools. My
boat is far away and I only have one additional visit planned before we recommence our
delivery, so I would like to be prepared.
