anything better than Interstate for flooded?

I'm about to replace my bank (it's been treated poorly for quite some time) with some new batteries. I'm sticking with flooded lead acid, and normally I just get the deep cycle Interstates for house, and a marine model starter for the ... starter.

Any other quick suggestions in regards to a superior manufacturer (that isn't crazy tough to find)?

Edit: 12v

Hey it's good to be back!

Okay I'll check them out. Should I look for them in chanderlies or auto stores?

rebel heart - what was your experience with interstate??

like, how long did you have them and how much did you use them and what made you decide to replace them??

a friend had to buy new batt's and is looking around to see what's what.

as for me, i've had trojan's for about four years now and they seem to be fine, but they've gotten really pricey lately and i'm not sure i'll go with them again.

Dekka makes good batteries. They have some AGM but I think they mostly use flooded.

The ones onboard now aren't interstates, but that was a high quality battery that we used to use in a fire department. All the fire engines (apparatuses, for any other smoke eaters) were rigged with Interstate batteries, so that's where I learned that (at least to the chief engineer) that Interstate was the real deal.

As for why I'm replacing them, I was in a pinch and mixed batteries a while back. Put different types / models in the same bank. So some of them are burned out, and I'd rather just start from scratch with a nice house bank and take care of them properly.

The best flooded's are Rolls/Surette and priced that way.
Trojans are closer to "normal" flooded prices and offer excellent value.
I have not seen musch performance difference between the mass market manufacturers flooded batteries.

I buy whatever West Marine has on the shelf. In over 20 years they have been good batteries and if you can buy through Port Supply will save yourself some money. They seem to need to be changed out about every five years or so.

If you need something more durable I would consider batteries made for golf carts.

There are five major and perhaps a dozen lesser battery manufacturers in the world. They each provide all the standard sizes and a full range of grades of batteries and stick on either their own or someone else's label, on a battery that's built to the buyers price line. So you can get 8 externally indentical Interstate batteries with different labels, and better or cheaper guts. Since the cases are usually made by yet another set ofmanufacturers, you may find another 8 indentical batteries from other makers!
Rolls / Surette, and one or two others are kind of "boutique" battery builders charging premium prices for premium product. For the rest, you get what you pay for. To know what you are getting for your money, just weight them, in the case of deep cycle, or buy the one with the best waranty for starting batteries. All batteries will last as long as you treat them right.

I have run Trojans, and they are great for land based applications, but have not had good life out of them on the boat. Rolls are great batteries, and priced accordingly, so I have not run them myself.I run Interstate exclusively. For trucks and boats, I have found them to be the longest lasting, and most reliable for the cost.
If you can afford the Rolls, I would go that route for flooded batteries. If you don't burn $ bills in your solid fuel heater, I would probably stick with the Interstate.
