12 Volt portable refrigerator/freezer

Any recommendations for a 12 Volt, portable fridge/freezer besides Engel, Dometic or ARB?

We’ve had good luck with the Alpicool.

We have a Mobicool MCF 40 (Dometic?) which is far cheaper than the Dometic range. Used for 3 years now as a freezer only during the season in Croatia. It only freezes down to -10C which is ok for ice and short term food storage. The current drain even at 35+C averages about 1.0 - 1.5 A @12V. Cannot fault it.

We are on year 3 with the brand "wynter" available on Amazon.
It has worked flawlessly.

I bought one of these ICECO 20's from Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07THMM1CK...1-df67fc737124

and it's been working great. I've been running it off of 200 watts of solar and 230AH of battery (2 6 volt golf cart batts). I've had no problems and it's been really nice having cold drinks and food handy while I'm working on the boat.

Worked great. Can be used as Freezer/fridge or just fridge. Freezes solid! Works best when full. Fairly efficient.

They go on sale for about $300

Looks like a rebranded Alpicool, or the opposite!

Re: 12 Volt portable refrigerator/freezer

Yeti. Unreal quality but I don’t think they have a plug in nor have I seen a plug in worth owning. I had one tossed it.
A decent cooling system fills them up. My boat had an optional one just like the one I tossed. For what it carried it was a waste of space. We used it to transport food from home to the boat and plugged it in to the cigarette lighter. Was a complete waste of $$$. We have a little soft Yeti for dinghy picnics and a card. The cart we can pack down two weeks of meat all packaged up and all the frozen stuff. The soft pack yeti is practical around a boat.

The Yetis are really great. They were a nice beachcombing item here in the early spring. By summer -too beat up by surf to bother with. I’m not sure where the spill was.

We didn’t find any 12v ones, not that they would have worked anymore anyway. So- we digress

I sub to these threads because we are looking for a good 12v one. So far my general impression has been- Alpicool for a cheap option, or Engel all the way, if you have the coin.

Re: 12 Volt portable refrigerator/freezer

I bought a 28qt igloo for my car. It draws 5a. 24/7. More power then a reg size boat fridge many times bigger…. Plus the boat one will cycle off. I would not use this on a boat.

Re: 12 Volt portable refrigerator/freezer

Purchased an Alpicool a few months ago and returned it. Arrived with a broken latch that I managed to repair, but it used a LOT of energy as a freezer. It did freeze well in a moderately warm climate (did not use in a hot climate).

I will eventually replace it with a rotomold version such as this Iceco with SECOR (Danfoss) compressor. The insulation factor is why I'd chose this style despite the cost.

Re: 12 Volt portable refrigerator/freezer

Breeznalong our Trail Blazer in our yacht is 6 years old and is going well. We have a10-year-old Waeco that we use for camping and road trips. I would highly recommend both brands.
Cheers
