Doesn’t really matter brand or size or even material as all climbing gear is rated SWL 27kN. We just wanted a size that easily fits through our chain and would still fit if doubled over (4 strands through the chain link).

Re: Anchor Chain Size and Anchor Size - Lagoon 440

Do you know your windlass' pull force limit? (WPFL) Every boat using chain, should know her anchor depth limit:

Anchor Weight + Chain Weight/m X Depth < WPFL

When you disregard the inequation by anchoring in deeper waters you probably need to help your windlass with your muscles.

The anchor weight is a constant value. But the chain load to windlass is varying according to the length of the chain droped in to the water. So keep in mind that chain size is important when you think about the max. depth you can anchor.

Mui importante, you must be sure to use the chain recommended by your wind manufacturer. It is not just a matter of size but design. If you use the wtong chain it will "skip" in the wildcat!

Isn’t that the job of the gypsy? You can use any chain with any windlass as long as you have the correct gypsy for that chain. If your windlass doesn’t have a gypsy for the chain you want then the windlass can’t handle that chain.

Re: Anchor Chain Size and Anchor Size - Lagoon 440

Owned a 440 for 8 years , used 80m of 12mm chain and a 40kg Rocna ,never once dragged even in 50 knot winds , don't over strain the windlass though, even as it was 1700w Quick it will still struggle if you don't move the boat forward when raising.
