Re: I need a Sailboat Delivered-From Nassau

Since I have been accused by the OP of "instigating" something here I invite all readers to go back and read the op and my original response where I raised a number of questions based on real world experience and where I positively wrote "I hope it works out for everyone." Then my last two posts--in response to the hullabaloo--where readers expressed their support for and also their disdain for my responses, I wrote to the op "I join the others in wishing you well and a safe delivery" and later wrote "I again wish you the best and hope all goes well. This has been entertaining. Perhaps you'll be willing to keep us all informed of progress." I appreciate the above post by BANDB who raised al the questions again in a new light and also ended on a positive and well wishing note which I will do again. I hope it all works out well and I think we'd all enjoy hearing about your progress because we can all sure learn something from this. Thanks and good night.

That would be me then.

I think it has all turned out reasonably well, the OP is alive and kicking, the boat is legit, and not a clunker.
Thanks have been expressed for the offers and advise, and it seems all differences have been nicely cleared up. I can feel the warmth of all that sincerity even as far away as I am out here in the North Sea.

Don't you just love a happy ending

Hey, that is my line. I learned from massage parlors in the 70's. She said: Sir, I will give you a Happy Ending.

In forum like this whether it is for sailing, hunting, or driving. There are always a few of them like to establish their superiority by any means. They expect the newbies to bow to them and be submissive. It is a hierarchy that commonly occurs in the animal kingdom. So it is perfectly normal.

Can we going sailing now?

Total thread drift but i remember meeting a woman and when asked what boat she was on she pointed to the anchorage and said "that white boat out there." Was in the BVI amongst the charters where 95% + of the boats were white hauled and barely indistinguishable from the next.

I lost a mouth full of Mai Tai when I experienced a similar story...

Heard over vhf in a BUSY harbor crowded with at least 200 boats in range...

(female) "shoreboat... we need a ride"
Location Please....
(I kid you not) "We're In the harbor... We're a white boat tied to a mooring ball"....

Heard in a barracks: (you might not get it) "I lost my left boot!"

"What color was it?"

Re: I need a Sailboat Delivered-From Nassau

OK, well, my final contribution to this thread, and then I will unsubscribe. I stand firm, for reasons I described earlier, in saying this is one of the most bizarre threads I've followed. Frankly, I the OP was clearly a little inexperienced at posting here (that's not hard to figure out, the post number is shown, it was 8 in the original post, but certainly experienced baptism by fire with this one). So maybe it's not too surprising that he didn't realize that his post would raise a lot of eyebrows. The absence of essential detail, and his failure to follow up within a reasonable time, certainly didn't help his cause, but I put it down to experience. Nonetheless, I think many of the more skeptical responses were quite reasonable, and not meant to be insulting (unlike some of the sniping that came later, directed at both the OP and the responders). In fact, as I mentioned earlier, I had contacted the OP by PM to indicate my interest, and had not thought about some of the very significant concerns that others had raised. So they served an important purpose.

Anyway, it seems like there are probably a lot of hurt feelings after this thread, both in the case of the OP, and by those who posted sincere concerns and were then criticized by others. I thought I would take a shot at resolving this, since this forum is really the single most useful resource I have ever seen for all things sailing, and I would hate to see anyone drop out because they felt insulted or shunned.

As they say on the VHF radio: OUT. pete
