Windlass: Simpson Lawrence 555 Two-Speed Manual Windlass Clone
ABI. This is a very heavy duty brass windlass and unlike its aluminum Sea Tiger 555 original.
Our boat is a 1967 Spencer and is way to heavy for our boat. One of the unfortunate deals where we thought we were buying one thing and ended getting something very different.
It's presently on the island of Roatan but can be shipped just about anywhere.
So we'll take any reasonable offer. We bought it for $400
Thanks,

Does it have the chain drive or gears on the inside?

Bronze perhaps...?
The Sea Tiger is also quite heavy, perhaps 25 KGs..Not much aluminium in it.

My old ABI Catalog (1990) shows a manual series 800 two-speed with double chain pipes that looks exactly like that one. It is gear driven, no chain. All bronze and stainless construction.
I would have considered purchase but getting it to Hawaii will cost more than the purchase price so, unfortunately, will pass. Whoever buys this windlass will be getting a real bargain. It is high quality stuff.
kind regards,

Hello,
I'm thrilled at the response to our windlass. I was afraid I was going to have to fashion an anchor out of it (it's heavy enough). Unfortunately I never met the person who sold it to me but I do have his email ric AT spiritofbuffalo DOT com and the other person that knows more about it because he has it at his marina in Roatan. He's (Mark) looking into shipping costs. his email is mark AT turtlegrass DOT net.
thanks,
Roger

Windlass
Hello,
Mark seem to think it would be between $50 & $75. To show my appreciation I'll split the shipping cost whatever they may be.
if you have a problem getting ahold of mark please let me know.
thanks, Roger

Now that is a deal!!!
If it is the one in the ABI catalog, in 1990 they sold for eight times that. Better jump on it now.
regards,

Thanks Roger, I have sent you a private message. I've also emailed Mark at both net & com but have yet to hear back.
I tried to find out if SL Spares in the UK know if parts are interchangeable but they won't say for sure, and now they are trying to sell me a good used SL555. I would guess with the images above that this windlass uses all the same parts as the SL555.
Best
Bryon

Hi, is this anchor windlass still available?
Which size of chain is it for? We have a 7/16" with a 1 1/4" pitch chain and 70m long. Our anchors are 25kg ang the heaviest is 50kg.
Thanks Giovanni & Therese
